He emphasized that Enugu is already working towards becoming a Smart Green City, aiming to significantly reduce carbon emissions through comprehensive climate policies and actionable initiatives.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Global Commission for Urban SDG Finance in Paris, Governor Mbah, represented by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Rt. Hon Uche Anya, expressed his administration’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 with appropriate support. The event, hosted by the Mayor of Paris, Ann Hidalgo, and attended by global leaders, financial and climate experts, including the First Lady of Brazil, Rosângela da Silva, and scholars like Prof. Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, highlighted the crucial role of sub-national governments in combating greenhouse gas emissions. Governor Mbah underscored the need for the right financial framework, partnerships, and collective global action to overcome environmental challenges. He outlined his vision for the New Enugu Smart Green City, emphasizing the administration’s efforts to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. He stated that Enugu, with a population of over four million, is poised to lead the shift from its coal-rich history to a hub for renewable and clean energy, harnessing solar, wind, and other renewable resources in the near future. A key highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the Bloomberg Clean Air Fund, targeting cities with independent credit ratings and bankable projects. The Enugu Government expressed its intention to benefit from this fund, having already demonstrated its creditworthiness and viable projects.
